This design is adopted from the Maasai bag. Unlike the Maasai bag which is made of untreated leather, this Nyota bag is made using factory treated leather. The bag is hand-made using traditional tools and leather thread decorated with beads and hells locally available. Colours of beads may vary. The decoration is adopted from headbands made of cowrie shells (symbols of fertility) worn by maasai girls after circumcision to indicate their state.
